When water is coming inside, the first roofing call should make the situation easy to understand. Start with the address, where the water is appearing, and whether it is still entering. You do not need to identify the damaged roof component before contacting a roofer.

Mario Contreras Roofing can be reached at (707) 540-2592 Monday–Friday, 7am–5pm, and Saturday, 8am–2pm. Sunday is closed. Call during those hours to discuss the leak and current availability; the business does not advertise 24-hour dispatch.

Say what is happening right now

Describe the difference between a damp stain, a steady drip, and water entering several areas. Explain whether the ceiling appears to be sagging or whether water is near an electrical fixture. Keep people clear of those hazards and seek appropriate emergency help if there is immediate danger.

Avoid climbing onto a wet roof or reaching into a damaged ceiling. A roofing appointment should not depend on you taking unsafe steps to investigate first.

Give the location in terms another person can use

“The back bedroom near the outside wall” is more useful than “the roof leaks somewhere.” If possible, identify a nearby fixed feature such as a chimney or skylight. For a multi-unit or commercial building, include the unit number and a contact who can show the affected interior area.

A photo taken safely indoors can help explain the location. Take a wider view as well as a close-up. There is no need to photograph the exterior roof if conditions make that unsafe.

Mention the history in one or two sentences

Tell the roofer whether the area has leaked before, whether a repair was made, and whether any recent roof or equipment work happened nearby. Keep the earlier invoice or photos available if you have them.

Water can travel before appearing inside, so the ceiling location does not necessarily identify the entry point. A roof leak assessment should connect the symptoms with the condition found on the roof.

Ask what the next step means

When discussing emergency roof repair, ask about current availability, safe access, and whether an initial visit may involve assessment or temporary protection. Temporary work and a permanent repair are different scopes. Ask how the lasting repair will be determined and quoted.

Weather, site conditions, and the current schedule can affect timing. Keep one reliable contact available and describe gates, pets, tenants, or other access details before the visit.

If water has stopped and the issue is now an old stain, you can also send a project request with the timing and location. For broader preparation, see our guide to documenting a ceiling stain.
